Startup Weekend is a global grassroots movement of active and empowered entrepreneurs who are learning the basics of founding startups and launching successful ventures. It is the largest community of passionate entrepreneurs with over 1800 past events in 120 countries around the world in 2014.

The non-profit organization is headquartered in Seattle, Washington but Startup Weekend organizers and facilitators can be found in over 200 cities around the world. From Mongolia to South Africa to London to Brazil, people around the globe are coming together for weekend long workshops to pitch ideas, form teams, and start companies.

All Startup Weekend events follow the same basic model: anyone is welcome to pitch their startup idea and receive feedback from their peers. Teams organically form around the top ideas (as determined by popular vote) and then it’s a 54 hour frenzy of business model creation, coding, designing, and market validation. The weekends culminate with presentations in front of local entrepreneurial leaders with another opportunity for critical feedback.

Whether entrepreneurs found companies, find a cofounder, meet someone new, or learn a skill far outside their usual 9-to-5, everyone is guaranteed to leave the event better prepared to navigate the chaotic but fun world of startups. Khaled Ismael

Managing Director of Intel Mobile Communications

Khaled is a former Cairo University Professor with a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering (nano -electronics) from MIT (1989). He worked at IBM’s Watson Research Center in the design of novel devices and materials for the semi-conductor industry.
He has published over 160 papers and issued 22 US patents, and received various honorary awards. Between 2005 and 2007, Ismail was the senior adviser of the Egyptian Minister of Communications and Information Technology, overseeing the technology development sector. Hesham is Co-Founder and CEO of Innoventures. Based in Cairo, he is responsible for the company's strategy and organization, creating and maintaining partnerships, access to potential ventures, and coaching entrepreneurs. In addition, Hesham is also Principal, Egypt & Middle East for Mercator XXI, a professional services firm helping clients engage the global economy. Hesham has a background of 10 years in the technology industry, as well as experience with entrepreneurial ventures. Fady Ramzy Aziz

Fady is an entrepreneur and an Internet visionary. He is cofounder and country manager of Interact Egypt, the regional R&D hub for the Italian group Insideout10. Fady brings over 15 years of diverse experience in the world of digital media from different perspectives. Starting his career in Clip Solutions, he was the first to introduce the concept of DRM for audio/video in Egypt thus allowing his customer, Mazzika TV, to monetize their protected content. Ashraf Rizkallah

Relying on 15 years of IT experience in different positions, Ashraf is now leading the formulation and execution of LinkDevelopment strategy to ensure the company growth. Ashraf was a coach in many startup weekends and in Google Ebda2. He was also managing the innovation program inside OTVentures to encourage intrapreneurs to create and develop their own ideas inside the organization. He received B.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering and Computers in 2000. He is stating his career as a teaching assistant at Biomedical Engineering department, Higher Technological Institute. Then he had a career shift to the world of entrepreneurship. He joined Arab Science and Technology Foundation (ASTF) then Scince Age foundation (SAS) as a project manager. During this period he managing many of entrepreneurship and startups competitions and programs. He developed and managed a new competition for Entrepreneurs in industrial sector, Industrial startup @ Arab World competition. It was the first of its kind worldwide and recognized as a featured event of Global Entrepreneurship Week in 2009.

Megahed is a business development specialist at the technical assistance unit, one of the units of ICT Trust Fund in Ministry of Communication and Information Technology. He is also master trainer at HP LIFE (Learning Initiative For Entrepreneurship) and Arabic discussion moderator at HP LIFE E-learning platform and the supervisor of HP LIFE trainers in Egypt. 7 years is his years of experience in training, coaching, business and entrepreneurship. He graduated from German department, language and translation faculty at Al-Azhar university.
Because of his passion for training and teaching, he changed his career and started a new one as IT and Internet Safety Trainer at Ministry of Communication and Information Technology after finishing some training of trainers’ courses. After that he moved to the managerial and team leading field to lead the Egyptian focus groups of internet safety Initiative to spread the awareness of Internet safety allover Egypt. He impacted more than 100000 Egyptian youth through awareness sessions inside schools, universities and youth centers.
